Gratifying as this was to watch, you know it was that sweet Burning Man money that really broke it up. The cops let these guys disrupt the lives of regular people, even if they need to get to the hospital, but get in the way of the tech bro playground in the desert? Tackle.

We went back and forth on how to say that the tribal cops were harder on these climate protestors than typical cops because the event makes money versus taking bribes directly to tackle the protestors, but my argument to Chance was at the end of the day, what’s the difference? It doesn’t mean I’m sympathetic to climate protestors, just cynical enough to understand we don’t matter, the jet set matters.

Pod Life

THIS IS THE WEEK! This is the week we release our first subscriber-only content, Pod Life. As one of our early, much-appreciated subscribers, here is a preview of the new comic:

Pod Life is a longer form, Sunday-strip style weekly comic that will tell a historical account of authoritarian failures with a humorous bent. We’re starting with Jamestown, America’s first socialist experiment. It failed, swiftly.

Future storylines I’m toying with include the founding of ANTIFA in Germany, the rise of Mao, the lead-in to Japan’s involvement in WWII and H.G. Wells’ excuses for Communist Russia. Anything goes. When there is a new post, I’ll be posting the first panel on social media but the full comic will be reserved as paid content.

In the News

“A new analysis suggests that a high percentage of people who required help from a ventilator due to a COVID-19 infection also developed secondary bacterial pneumonia. This pneumonia was responsible for a higher mortality rate than the COVID-19 infection.”

“Award-winning journalist, Alex Newman, sheds light on a 2013 UN report asserting that meat, chicken and traditional agriculture are "not sustainable", and that a "major propaganda campaign" is needed to persuade people to eat insects instead.”

H-1B Visa

Where does the American graduate go where the H-1B Visa won't take it away from him? Importing indentured servants from other countries has flattened the salaries of American engineers since 2012. No one is happier about it than the average tech company.

Naturally when I bring up the average tech company who should pop up but Bobby Cujo—but that’s for next time.

And then there’s Friday’s comic in case you missed it:

The California fires continue to rage.

Meta Backlash Against Fake AI Users on Instagram

We’re back from our hiatus on new comics! A new Pod Life came out a few weeks ago and we’re working on the next. We spent Christmas refreshing as a family and we also bought some new equipment for the podcast.

There was a Mean Tweets last week though most people were still on vacation—I suspect our listeners tune in at work

More coming now that 2025 is underway!

War is Over

Every year the radio plays that John Lennon song that ends in a parenthesis. War is over (if you want it). Unfortunately both parties have to want it, and it seems both parties are intent on war. Odd that I haven't heard this song play on the radio this year.

I got this nice note from SESpider on X:

That sums up why we started Based Comic in the first place. If this reminder that Jesus won the war is helpful at all, may it bless you and yours this Christmas. We’ll see you next week!
